Safety:

• Complies with AS 60335.2.76 and IEC 60335.2.76 for maximum energy output and impulse durations
• Use rubber gloves when operating the tester
• Ensure the tester is switched OFF until ready for use. (The red rocker switch light should be OFF).
• Do not touch any of the metal parts of the tester after switching the unit ON.
• Ensure that the user is in a stable and safe position when using the tester.

Testing an Air Terminal:

• Remove any build up of dirt or rubbish between the finial tip and the 4 panels.
• Clean the finial tip and each of the 4 upper rivet heads of the panels of the air terminal.
• Turn the tester ON. The red rocker switch light should be ON.
• Ensure the tester is functioning correctly by pressing and holding down the red push button on top of the tester. This action should result in pulsed arcing across the spark gap of the tester (across the black plastic insulator, between the brass tip and the brass nut). Arcing should occur at a rate of approximately 1 arc per second.
• Hold the screw head of the tester up against the rivet head of the air terminal panel under test. At the same time, ensure that the brass HV tip is touching the finial tip of the terminal.
• Do not touch (with any part of your body) any of the air terminal components during the test.
• Press and hold the red push button on top of the tester to generate an arc.

PASS:

• An arc across the gap between the panel of the air terminal and finial tip confirms a successful test.

FAIL:

• If an arc occurs across the spark gap of the tester (between the brass HV tip and the brass nut of the tester unit) and not between the finial tip and the panel of the terminal, this indicates either a failed test or poor contact between the tester and the terminal. Clean and retest.
• If no arc occurs either on the terminal under test or the tester spark gap, this indicates either an internal short in the air terminal or the tester is discharged or has developed an internal fault. Check to see if the rocker switch is turned ON. If the light on the rocker switch does not light up, the tester battery may require charging.

Charging and storage:

• Use the supplied charger only to recharge this unit.
• To charge the unit, ensure that the rocker switch on the tester is turned off (no light on the switch).
• Plug the supplied charger into a suitable mains outlet (110-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz)
• Plug the charger lead into the tester charge socket.
• Both RED and GREEN lights on the charger should turn on.
• RED indicates power is applied. GREEN indicates charging.
• Charge until the GREEN light on the charger turns off.
• Do not leave the tester on charge after the GREEN light has turned off.
• Ensure that the unit is packed or stored with the rocker switch turned OFF and protected from inadvertently being switched ON.
